Termite Barriers

Purpose

Outline our process for installing chemical termite barriers using approved products (e.g., fipronil such as Termidor or equivalent). Always follow the current APVMA-approved label and SDS. Mixing rates, application volumes, and trench/drill specifications must match the label and site conditions.

Scheduling & Labour

  • Time allowance: ~1 hour per 10 lineal metres for basic trenching. Extra time for heavy drilling.
  • Jobs over 60 lineal metres: allocate an additional labourer or second tech.
  • Confirm access, water source, power, parking, and noise windows with client.

Tools, PPE & Safety

  • PPE per label/SDS: gloves, eye protection, respirator if required, protective clothing, safety boots.
  • Tools: trenching shovel, injection rods, drill/hammer drill, bits, plugs/caps, mortar + colour tints, measuring wheel, mixing tank/pump, spill kit, wet/dry vacuum.
  • Establish exclusion zones; prevent runoff to drains/waterways; use bunds where necessary.

Site Prep & Utilities

  1. Confirm services (power, water, gas, data). Dial-before-you-dig records if required.
  2. Mark injection points and trench lines. Photograph pre-start.
  3. Advise client of noise, dust, and access needs. Protect adjacent surfaces.

Measurement & Volume Planning

  • Measure lineal metres (LM) of perimeter to treat; note construction types (soil, concrete, pavers, tiles).
  • Calculate total solution volume per label: target volume per LM × total LM.
  • Prepare sufficient product concentrate for expected total volume; keep batch/lot details.

Trenching Application (Soil)

  1. Excavate trench to depth/width as specified by the product label for the structure and soil type.
  2. Apply mixed chemical evenly to achieve label-specified application volume/LM and soil return saturation.
  3. Backfill in layers, treating each layer per label to maintain a continuous treated zone.
  4. Avoid pooling; ensure drainage away from stormwater inlets.

Drill & Inject (Concrete/Pavers)

  1. Mark drill line along slab edge/expansion joints to label specification. Confirm utilities below.
  2. Drill holes at label-specified spacing and diameter; vacuum dust; prevent dust from entering interiors.
  3. Inject to achieve target volume per hole/LM; monitor for refusal/leakage and adjust technique.
  4. Plug holes with caps or mortar; match mortar colour to existing as closely as practical.

Weep Holes, Expansion Joints & Wet Areas

  • Weep holes: Do not block. Follow label on proximity and application method.
  • Wet areas: Isolate stormwater sumps/pits; prevent chemical entry; use barriers if needed.
  • Joints/penetrations: Ensure continuity around pipes, steps, and construction joints.

Backfill, Make-Good & Colour Match

  • Restore soils, pavers, and concrete finishes neatly. Wash down work areas.
  • Mortar/plug finish should be flush and colour-matched where feasible.
  • Remove debris; leave site clean and safe.

Mixing, Transport & Waste

  • Mix strictly to label directions using clean water and calibrated equipment.
  • Never exceed or under-dose. Record batch/lot and volumes used.
  • Transport/store chemicals upright, in bunded areas. Dispose of rinsate/empties per label and local regulations.

Quality Checks & Handover

Check Acceptable Standard
Continuity Unbroken treated zone; correct volumes documented
Finish Clean, holes plugged, mortar colour matched
Safety No runoff; signage used if needed; PPE worn
Client briefing Explain what was done, product used, warranty/monitoring

Admin: ServiceM8 & Teams

  1. Update ServiceM8 with measurements, volumes, product, lot/batch, photos (before/after), drawings.
  2. Attach compliance docs (label/SDS if required) and client handouts.
  3. Post completion note and photos in Teams project/channel if requested.
